National Laboratory Day

Program Overview

National Lab Day at Oklahoma State University is more than just a day. On this day, OSU  joins a nationwide initiative to build local communities of support to foster ongoing collaboration among volunteers, students and educators. Volunteers, university students, scientists, engineers, and other STEM professionals and are working together with educators and students to bring discovery based science experiences to students in grades K-12.  For more info, visit: http://www.nationallabnetwork.org/

EFPL Hands-On Demonstration

Slippery when Wet: Adding small amounts of polymer powder to water doesn’t change its appearance but significantly changes how it behaves. The friction decreases by up to 75% with polymer, which can make it very easy to slip and fall if it gets on your shoes. In this demonstration we make some polymer solution and explore how slippery it makes things. In addition, the interaction of low-frequency acoustics and non-Newtonian fluids are explored with hands-on activities.
